This is not your ordinary chili salt, neither is it a Tajín knockoff. This fruit chili has its own herbaceous moves and a multicultural twist—pairing both Mexican and Thai flavors into one of the most delicious chili herb salts that was born to be flecked all over summer fruit. This complex, multi-layered herbal chili salt balances Thailand’s refreshing and bright citrusy tones with Mexico’s robust, earthy, peppery notes. It all intermixes with a cornerstone of fresh and dried chilies, offering a wide range of heat levels and flavors from smoky to fruity to seriously fiery, balanced by plenty of robust herbs like epazote, Thai basil, Vietnamese coriander, and Mexican oregano. Little lashes of sweet and sultry herbs like licorice and lavender thyme add tiny sweet, perfumed hints to the fruit chili, while fragrant lemon verbena and pineapple sage contribute fruitiness and added brightness. A blended mixture of watermelon, serrano chilies and lime juice drenches the salt before lime zest is folded into the mixture and topped with the Mexi-Thai magic. The finished product has it all: sweet, sour, salty, and spicy. Whether you’re sprinkling it on a freshly cut mango or adding it to a watermelon feta salad, you’ll wish you had more. This is the fruit chili of the season, celebrating new ideas by paying homage to old concepts and flavors. Think outside the box with this one.
